You Know You Need Your ‘Charlie Brown’ at the Empire This Christmas

Christmastime is here!

A Charlie Brown Christmas returns to San Antonio this holiday season with an updated look and fresh direction that is sure to warm the hearts of the whole family.

Brennan Loy as the title character in ‘A Charlie Brown Christmas,’ presented by San Antonio’s Magik Theatre, playing at the Empire Dec. 20-24.

Magik’s fourth annual production of the Charles M. Schulz classic is being reinvigorated this year by the award-winning David Saar, Founding Artistic Director of Childsplay in Arizona, who is eager to rejuvenate this production with new faces, new costuming and the “true honesty of each character and their own stories.”

“The magic of Charlie Brown is its universal message. Every character represents a part of growing up,” Saar explained. “These characters were a part of everyone’s childhood and are still relatable today as we share them with the next generation of storymakers — that’s what makes Charlie Brown so special.”

This new production is not all that unfamiliar, however. Under Saar’s direction will be a number of fan favorites, including Y100 radio personality Brennan Loy as Charlie Brown, live music performed by long-time Magik maker Marc Johnson as Schroeder, and such familiar Magik mainstage faces as Rebekah Williams  (Lucy), Jovi Lee (Sally) and Rosa Gardner  (Woodstock).

A Charlie Brown Christmas recreates the classic animated television special in this faithful stage adaptation for the whole family. When Charlie Brown complains about the overwhelming materialism he sees among everyone during the Christmas season, Lucy suggests that he become director of the school Christmas pageant. Charlie Brown accepts, but this proves to be a frustrating endeavor. When an attempt to restore the proper holiday spirit with a forlorn little Christmas fir tree fails, Charlie Brown needs Linus’ help to discover the real meaning of Christmas.

K-LOVE is proud to sponsor Family Night on December 20, with activities and prizes for all ages.

Performances of A Charlie Brown Christmas will run December 20-24, 2018, at The Charline McCombs Empire Theatre, with a complimentary cast meet-and-greet following every show. Ticket prices begin at $15 and can be purchased through Ticketmaster.com.
