The Legendary Film Producer, San Antonio native and SAFILM Honorary Board Member Dies at 95

SAFILM-San Antonio Film Festival has just announced an encore screening of A Classy Broad in honor of San Antonio native and legendary film producer Marcia Nasatir, who passed away Tuesday morning, Aug. 3, at 95 years old. A Classy Broad will screen Saturday, August 7th at 8pm at Radius Center.

Marcia Nasatir was the first female VP at United Artists studio in 1974. She broke the glass ceiling for women in film and was responsible for classics like Rocky, Carrie, Apocalypse Now and One Flew Over the Cuckoo’s Nest .

She was also an ardent supporter and friend to SAFILM. An honorary board member, she appeared at several SAFILM events, often bringing with her industry veterans such as producers Harry J. Ufland and Fred Roos. In 2019, SAFILM inaugurated The Marcia Nasatir Award to honor fearless women in film, awarding actress Cybill Shepherd with the first-ever trophy.

A Classy Broad is directed, edited and conceptualized by Anne Goursaud, a Hollywood veteran who credits Nasatir with recommending her to Francis Ford Coppola. Goursaud is best known for her work as editor for The Outsiders and Bram Stoker’s Dracula.

She is already slated to appear at this year’s SAFILM for THE EDITORS CUT industry panel and will now screen her inspiring documentary on Marcia Nasatir’s groundbreaking career on Saturday night at 8pm. SAFILM first showcased A Classy Broad as an official selection in 2017, which is now available to watch on digital on-demand. Ms.  Goursaud will be in attendance to share intimate stories about our beloved classy broad.
