Free Reading at Guadalupe Friday

 

The Guadalupe Latino Bookstore hosts its first Texas Author Series of 2024 with an author reading of “Warrior Girl” by Dr. Carmen Tafolla. She is a poet, storyteller, performance artist, motivational speaker, cultural activist, Professor Emeritus, and beloved native of San Antonio’s Westside. A book signing and reception will take place with books such as “Warrior Girl,” which is on the list of finalists for the Tomas Rivera Children’s Book Award. Dr. Tafolla is a beloved resident and poet from San Antonio, who is well known throughout the state of nationally, having served as Texas Poet Laureate for San Antonio and Texas. She was also recently named this year’s winner of the Texas Institute of Letters’ prestigious Lifetime Achievement Award, the TIL’s highest honor.

The Latino Bookstore hosts a free Texas Author Series every second Friday of the month at 6 p.m. The evening will be hosted by Tony Diaz, El Librotraficante, Literary Curator of the Latino Bookstore.

The event is free and open to the public.

The Guadalupe Cultural Art Center’s Latino Bookstore and Gift Shop is not a typical enterprise. It is an official Visitor Center for the state of Texas and home for books ranging from best sellers and icons to self-published authors from our community. They also have books for children, young adults, and teens in English, Spanish, and Spanglish.

The Latino Bookstore is not just a place to shop, it is a place to experience and come together with your community. It is housed in the Guadalupe Cultural Art Center’s complex, across the street from the historic Guadalupe Theater. The bookstore is open Tuesday to Saturday from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m.
